C5 – Cropland/grassland GPP monitoring
Rolling out high-resolution GPP data (10-daily, 10m) for grassland and cropland, currently non-existing over Europe.
Domain
Quantifying Gross Primary Production (GPP, total influx of carbon into an ecosystem through photosynthesis) is a critical input to derive Net Primary Production (NPP), above-ground biomass production, and ultimately crop yield/pasture biomass. The aim of this candidate is to develop high-resolution GPP data (10-daily, 10m) for grassland and cropland, currently non-existing over Europe. To do so, we will use the Copernicus DMP (Dry Matter Production) algorithm adapted for Sentinel-2 HR-VPP data. The upcoming VLCC layers on cropland and grassland combined with ICOS Eddy Covariance (EC) data will allow specific parameterisation and validation.
